Driver's Door Wind Noise
« on: 24 April 2006, 17:39 »
Hello to everyone,

I have been watching this forum for the last few weeks and must say it contains lots of invaluable information.

I picked up my new GTI on Saturday and nearly all is well - great drive with plenty of low down poke - but there seems to be a lot of wind noise at the back top corner of the drivers door.  There is wind noise around the front of the car as with any car and around the passenger door also - this is to be expected and is definitely outside - but the wind noise at the drivers door top rear corner seems to be coming into the cabin.

I had a similar issue with a Mark V GT TDI I had but didn't do anything about it for fear of dealer making it worse.  I am sure mine is not the only one to be afflicted as I read about it somewhere else.  Perhaps VWMainDealer could shed some light on what VW are doing about this.  All others comments/experiences would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Brycem

Sounds like a fault.  Mine is 3 weeks old and there isn't even a hint of wind noise.

It must be a gap? Is the window correctly aligned and closing fully? (I know that's an obvious one, but its best to start with the basics) Try taping (pvc) over the shut line round the door frame and see if it makes a difference.  You may be able to isolate the fault zone.

There is quite a lot going on in terms of construction (metal, rubber, welds, folds) in this area, so leaks could occur.

Hope this helps.
