Where would you buy your parts from?
« on: 24 April 2006, 16:00 »
Im in the process of a full engine rebuild. As a result im in the need of varios parts and kits such as

Head gasket kit
Bottom end gasket kit
Timing belt
Timing chain
Top suspension mounts

Now i called my local vw and prices these bits and pieces up and i must admit i was shocked at the high prices. So i called German and Swedish and was suprised at how low there prices were. With important pieces of kit such as the head gasket can i rely on cheaper parts from GSF? Where should i get my bits from? Where do you all get stuff like this?

nowt wrong with GSF as long as you do not get a complete imboscile on the phone. I rebuilt my old engine through various motorfactors and there was nowt wrong with anything.

Don't trust GSF personally I now use www.vwspares.co.uk as they are genuine febi bilstein parts and not french imatation pattern parts

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

i would still replace it. what seems fine to you now may not be 1000 mile down the road - and you'd hate for it to snap a belt after just rebuilding it!

I'd get what I can from AVS then get the rest from GSF :)

Actually, I'd trawl ebay for cheaper kits, providing they're a decent make! ;)
