Advice on buying please
« on: 22 April 2006, 11:45 »
Hi everyone - new member here.
I need to buy a new Golf GTI asap. VW dealership delivery times aint gonna suit my requirements so have been looking around web for a quick buy.
Has anyone had  any dealings or have info regarding new-car-discount.com ?
The deal looks everything like what I would get from a VW dealership but with almost immediate delivery of a UK market car and almost £1000 cheaper!
Deal or No Deal ?-  Any advice welcome

ps spec is 3dr/DSG/Leather/Winter pack/18" Monzas

I went for motorprovider.co.uk - they provided me with a UK spec car for over a £3000 saving. Only thing its missing is the third year warranty but they can be bought for a few hundred quid. Service has been very good so far - they have some cars in stock but cos i wanted leather mines going to be 4 weeks.

Try looking for a cancelled order.  The Gti's seem to be coming through much quicker than the dealers originally thought, so it's worth a go....

you can try euroimports.  They have ordered specced cars and you'll get a decent discount.  All cars sre UK spec.

Thanks forthe replys. Still I am wondering how a 'true' uk spec car finds its way to non VW dealerships ?
This sounds crazy to me - I want to buy from VW dealer but I have to wait because they too have to wait. What the hell is going on

The whole thing about Gti availability is a bit of a mystery.  I waited 3 months for my order.

A local dealer told me, that last year they had only received one car per month.  The supply has definitely improved since then, but so has demand.

Have you tried ringing a load of VW dealers? ring Milton Keynes.  Some must have them in the showroom ready to buy!

I would love to know VW UK's marketing strategy.  In the early days of the A3 they kept supply short to improve the image, but all that seems to have gone now Audi are chasing BMW for numbers.  However, we don't want the Gti to become the next "Clit car" (explanation available in Roger Melly's Profanisaurus) like the Impreza and Mini.

I'm always a bit bias when it comes to the broker v dealer thing but i'll try and remain impartial.

Sometimes, BUT NOT ALWAYS, the reason www.uk.cheap.dot.broker.discount.whatever.dot.com can get you a car earlier is because they lie. A proper broker will source it's cars through a main dealer. I personally used to supply one of the biggest brokers in the country so I know the score. They knock a few months off delivery to get the business. Once the dealer has your deposit, you're screwed.

INSIDER KNOWLEDGE ALERT!!!!!!!!

How do car brokers work?

I personally supplied a major broker almost 120 cars and am happy to explain exactly how the whole thing works.

Customer goes onto brokers website and sees car for 10% discount. Gives credit card num,ber to broker and says yes please. Broker then emails his dealer and passes on the customers details and credit card number. Dealer then phones customer and runs through vehicle requirements. Confirm the spec and then take deposit from credit card. When car has arrived, call customer and arrange a day for our driver to deliver car. Once car is delivered and cleared funds are in dealers bank, we pay broker another 1.5% commision for setting the deal up. This is the only time the broker gets any money. This is why brokers don't mind bending the truth with delivery times because all they need to do is to get you to commit with dealer to buy.

I still stand by my previous comments that buying a car this way is fine, If price is more important than service. I couldn;t give a toss about broker customers (in the nicest possible way) because i'll never meet them and I don't make any money out of them. You will not get the aftercare that a proper customer will get. it all depends on what is the most important thing for you.

I'm in a right strop tonight so I apologise if this is a bit ranty

What's your best price for cash?

Firstly thanks for your thoughts VWmaindealer -  I like a rant myself    !
What is the average 'place an order to drive away'  time at your dealership?

I am not looking for a cheap deal more like a quick deal - I would prefer go to my local VW showroom and buy. Where the hell are all these pre reg'ed get the sales up time of the month cars hiding ? I guess this does not happen in reality. Searched thru' many VW dealerships and virtually nil stock
