Seperating splitter from front big bumper?

hey.
i now have my new front big bumper fitted to my golf (after putting a hole in the old one) however i would like to take the splitter (think thats what its called) off the bottom of my old bumper and put it on the new one. this is where the problem is, cant seem to get the bugger off.
have tried almost everything but there are that many slots which it fixes on to and i cant get hardly any of the clips out. it just doesnt look like they can even fit through the holes they go in.
can anybody help me please or explain how to get it off? would be a great help.
if none of this topic makes sense just say and ill try to explain again.
cheers

I found this problem too... Give it a very hard tug, but gentle at the same time! It should come off... When you get it off, trim the clips down a bit. It will still be held on fine, mine is still tight, but i can pop it off to get on ramps etc...

Two pairs of hands are really handy to have. the clips on the splitter are wedged and spring up once through the slot in the bumper. Start at one end and use a big flat screwdriver to push down on the wedge until it can go back through the slot - the other pair of hands are needed to pull the splitter away from the bumper firmly but gently so the wedges don't re-engage. ONce you got a couple undone it gets a lot easier. It can be done single handed ÂÂÂ
but it is a bit of a struggle.

When putting it back on use a little mastic or similar sealant (not an adhesive as you may wish to remove for a replacement or refurb) as they have a habit of popping out from the side if your ride is low. A little scuff and pop, hit it hard enough and you will see it bouncing along the road in your rear view.
