Why do you change your vehicle every 6 months?

if you've got enough coin, why not.

I change my car every 6 months but only because mine all seem to give up the ghost!

Mk1 and Mk2 SHEDS!!!  I take it Doc that you have never driven a Mk1 or Mk2 in mint condition so it drives as it was meant to when built... believe me, the Mk2 16v for example is a fantastic car and in my opinion, just shades the Mk5 which although a fantastic car that seems to almost glide over road surfaces is still too heavy - even though it doesn't seem it - and doesn't have that direct 'one-with-the-road' go-kart feeling that the Mk1 and Mk2 had.  I still turn my head as far as it will go when I see a good Mk2 16v on the road and I'm driving a Mk5!

Oh and I got through all those cars in one year because I wanted to get a good feel of what a good Mk1 and Mk2 drives like as I don't have the advantage of years of driving these cars.  Still looking for that mint Mk2 16v - and I will find it   The Syncro is too heavy with its 4-wheel drive and so I have to sell - plus I need the money and the mint Mk2 8v I have just isn't a 16v and I could again do with the money so am selling that.  But after that, I will settle down and just take the Mk1 and 2 to shows and maintain them... all this searching, buying and selling/replacing is getting really tiring.

I have had most of the cars on your list when they were BRAND NEW my man. My First car was a "A" Reg 1.8 Mk 2 GTI. I had an engine conversion GTi engineering on it, then went onto Gti 16v's - I had a number of these and had some of them built by ottinger, then Sierrra 3 Door Cosworths, an Rs 500, BMW M5's, LOTS of Mercs , CL500's  etc! My last car before my GTi was a Land rover (would you belive it it was 6 months old! )  But I'm back with my Golfs again (thanks to my missus Mk5 GT TDi) and loving it! So please forgive the "shed" tag but I presumed that they were sh!t as you kept changing them.

Enjoy your Mk5

What are you going to buy next month?

I get bored quickly too - one other reason to chnage my cars but I have now settled on what I want... as for owning the earlier Golfs from new when they came out, you are beginning to make me feel  as a parrot. Lucky git
