Golf 1.8T questions - New owner - New to forum!
« on: 19 April 2006, 09:34 »
Hi All

Firstly a big YO!
New to these forums and hopefully will be a regular..

Just picked up up a 4-door, Grey, W-reg (2000) golf gti turbo, 36000 miles, FVWSH, for £5000..Had been looking for some time for a nice example and thankfully found one..Was private sale, and managed to drill the last owner right down..Result!

Anyway, i have a couple of questions if i may..

1 - Can anyone tell me if they have fitted the angel eye headlights...I have read a few threads regarding these but no-one seems to have actually fitted or seen them in the flesh...What do they look like? I have a cracked headlamp and need to change anyway so i was considering these..

2 - If i decide to go down the re-map route, i know leaglly i have notify the insurance, but what if i don't? I don't believe there is any real way of finding of that its been done as its concealed- is there?

Many thanks

welcome mate

not sure about the first question - i know a few have fitted smoked headlights to their golfs  :undecided:

2nd - most re-maps are undectable but it's worth paying the little bit extra on your insurance to make sure you are fully covered in the event youa re found out!!

there are plenty of golf specialists who will insure your pride and joy - try HIC - there is a link on the forum.  A guy named Martin should be able to sort you out

Most of the big insurance companies now have the software to detect the remap on your car mate, so its not worth the hassle.

I have seen the angel eyes on a mk 4 in Germany, they look ok, not my cup of tea tho :undecided:

u can detect a remap on a diagnostic check because it shows all software and software upgrades on the car. so really they are easy to detect.

ive seen the angel eye headlights not a big fan personally. id probably go 4 the smoked option they look more euro and less chav mate. only my opinions tho.

ps hope u enjoy ur the golf i no i do.
