Fashing & Beeping Oil Light
« on: 18 April 2006, 22:23 »
Hi
Ive just got back from the shop, (about a mile away) on the way there my 1995 8v,oil light started flashing and making a beepin noise, the obvious thing that went through my mind was oil, i checked the dip stick,(a few times) its showing the oil as O.k, nearly to the top of the indicater, the car has been left standing for about a week and a half. i was gonna change the oil and filter at the weekend cos ive just brought the car, when i got the car a week and a half ago i drove it back about 290 miles with no probs at all.
         Any ideas Thanks

sound slike a pressure drop, usually the oil pickups get blocked so the pressure drops, might just want to drop the sump, and give the pipes a little clean out.

if the buzzers on then the pressure is below the 2 bar minimum spec..

check that the wire on the high pressure sender which is located on top of the oil filer carrier!

check that the wire is on, ... you can also check that the buzzer wiring is working correctly by sticking it to earth. and then start the car hold revs above 2000rpm if the buzzer doesnt come on then the wire is working ok so its either the sender which is faulty, or the pick up tube is blocked!

most of the time its the sender or wiring.....

the high pressure sender works on a constant earth connection, a closed circiut.. low oil pressure makes the switch open the circuit the result the led lights and the buzzer sounds..

if the earth connection breaks the switch will do this due to pressure dropping or the wire breaking or the sender is stuck on open the buzzer sounds this is why you need to hold the wire onto the engine while it gets started and the revs held above 2000rpm to see if theres a connection break in the wire running to the buzzer!
the buzzer only sounds when the revs are taken above 2000rpm....

the switch on the oil filter is prone to packing up so it may be that.
