I still might go for forced induction on the vr6. Question is , is 10-1 to high on compression ratio?

not sure about quality in comparison, or suitability for transplants... but ya missed the 2.0 16v off :P

10:1 is probably a little high. I wouldn't think You would want much over 8.5:1 for forced.  I know a fella out this way with a MK4 VR6 and twin turbos. Makes about 380hp. Next time I see him I will ask him what his compression is and what type of pistons he is running. I would assume forged pistons would be required. :)

I think the vr6 already has forged pistons from the factory, loads of companies do supercharger kits that just 'bolt on' without any engine work. Just curious really.

could have, not to sure really. wouldn't suprise me running that kind of compression stock. Would be a load of fun to strap a paxton or vortech charger on it though. :)

Compression isn't as high as 16v engines. KR - 10.5-1 , 9A - 10.75-1.

2.0 16 valve is a staight drop in a mk1  ;).
VR6 engine will take 6 to 8 psi of boost on standard compression ratio with the right chip. Would make it a torque monster, ripping cats eyes out of the road when you overtake   :o.

Both would work well, the charger is a popular choice. Seems to suit the engine well. Turbo would require a intercooler due to the higher inlet charge temps, s/c should be ok. Follow these links, this site has a lot of good info (and the usual junk  ;)).
