Blimey, thats a tough one. I'm looking at options for my Mk1 (distant) project. I would have liked the 2.8VR6, quality engine but probably too heavy. 1.8 G60 is another option but I suspect are rare as rocking horse sh1t. 1.8T is a viable option, especially in a year or two whereupon I think there will be a few more available for a reasonable price.

I'll be interested to see how people vote here and what they feel makes a good engine, as its not always just about the performance...........................

The 2.8L lump is quality, powerfull and bullet proof  ;)

According to top gear, when they looked at that Corrado, it was the best (or was it one of the best) engines VW have ever produced. From my point of view though, sticking it in a Mk1........ :-\ :-\  bit too heavy I think is the general consensus of opinion.

Yeah I think it is.........but is it not basically the same engine? If so, what did they do to increase the cc? Bore or stroke?

Forced induction! I am a big fan of the G60 engine. However the 1.8 turbo lump is an excellent engine as well. What about the 5v Audi engine. One from a TT. 225hp sounds good to me especially through a 6 speed G/box.

Golf engine is 2792cc , corrado engine is 2861cc. Corrado engine is bored out by 1mm with same stroke as golf.
