Paint Code (Which White)

My 5 door Mk2 GTI is white ('91). Went to Halfrauds to get a touch up pen and was confronted with several options for white in the catalogue none of which seemed to line up with my car as nothing was specified for cars between '87 and '93.

Where do I find the paint code? I have looked at the sticker in the boot, under the bonnet (scuttle and right wing), and on all the door posts.

My small level of common sense tells me that is probably doesn't matter but it would be nice to know all the same. The options at Halfords were Candy (93 on), Pastel and one other that I can't remember.

i suspect it is alpine white L90E

if u have your owners forms and books it should be on the front page with all the car number details.

The codes you have found are the chassis codes and if all else fails go into a VW parts department and tell them your chassis number and they can give you the paint code and colour as its all stored on their database.

The only place you will find the paint code is on the sticker in the boot and as R1D3R said in the front inside cover of your service book.

Thanks R1D3R the paint code matches the letters on the sticker in the boot. Halfords had Alpine white but it was only listed for cars up to 1979 and the code in the book was L90B. Going to use it anyway as it looks like a good match. As I'm colourblind it doesn't matter anyway ;-)

I painted an 85 Jetta GL in the States that my mom had. It was Alpine White. Wonder why they only listed it through 79? Gotta wonder where halfords gets their info sometimes. I was flipping through the list when I wanted to replace the headlamp bulbs in my car and they didn't have a listing for a 4 light grille GTI. lol.

reason for these mistakes is that the company is a peice of sh!teeee!

they could of made u up the exact colour mk28vpb91?

i got one of my mates there to mix it for me. he got the letters L and E the wrong way round. Did a big spray along my back end and it came out like silver/grey. Ive never had so many blisters from rubbing it all off.
