Performance brake pads for a Mk2 GTi...which ones to have?

Well, my 10,000mile service is next weekend. Thus far I've got the oil, oil filter and spark plugs. Coolent was changed 10k ago and I have a cone filter which I'm going to clean through with petrol...

So its just brake pads I need to worry about.

Anyone used GreenStuff pads? Are they any good? If nothing else I'm told they reduce brake dust.

How often do I need to get my brake fluid changed? Do I need to change the brake discs every 20k?

change the brake discs as they need it, i've just gone for greenstuff pads from pagid fast road purely for the 'less dust' reason. too soon to tell if they are significantly better.. brake fluid lasts a long time but is always worth changing. when was it last done?

What were the pagid pads like? I've been told getting fancy discs for my car (239mm) is a waste of time, but I really want to get some performance pads to give me a bit more braking ability.

Can't remember when brake fluid was last done, I've done 20,000miles since August 2005, I think, when I got the car...and it hasn't been done since I've had it.

I found some EBC brake fluid stuff for less than a tenner which has a higher boiling point and gives a firmer brake pedal feel.

to be honest i doubt you'd notice the difference with fancy brake fluid. i just use vw stuff. if in doubt...change yours, can't hurt to!

i'd like to say the pagids were good but i used them when i went to a g60 set up with brembo discs and to be frank i was a bit disappointed. first drive with zimmerman cross drilled and greenstuff pads were much better.

Where can I get ATE power discs? Were they priced ok? Saw some black diamond ones for about £70ish in my PVW mag I think...will have to check.

you get them from www.eurocarparts.com and were pretty cheap. i think i got mine in the sale as well though..........

im due to change all my discs and pad at the end of the month. i had a quote from euro car parts for the ATE discs and green stuff pads was £145 which i think is brill. the only thing is i have not use green stuff before and was told by my mate that they are sh!te when cold but under when hot they were very good.

Was that £145 you were quoted for front and rear discs and pads mate?

I need 239mm discs as far as I am aware, guess I need to check my discs and pads for wear, but they've done around 20,000miles without being changed.

I may just change the pads if the discs are ok.

the green stuff are designed for road use so are meant to work from cold, whereas red stuff and yellow stuff are for track days and need to be hotter before they become effective. or so ebc say!

Have found those 'powerdiscs' for £18.38...that seems well cheap!

Plus the EBC 'greenstuff' pads for £32.45.

This is all for the front...seems like a job done, just have to order them now
