Looking for a live wire
« on: 17 April 2006, 11:12 »
Hi Guys,

As the cigarette lighter is not up to the job, I now have to hardwire my Snooper GPS Radar Detector.

I want to locate it on the small flat area to the right of the steering column, and I need to find a nice, easily accessible live (either permanent or switched).
Now I know that the fusebox is just below here, so I should have a reasonable choice at least.

Can  anyone help me out a little more here?

Thanks,

Dave

Depends what year, the early MK2s have switched & permanent live spades on the rear of the fuse box, also if you follow the big chunky red wires you should see a spare spade next to it you can use.
For the late spec again follow the big chunky red wires and theres a spare spade next to it :)

It's a 1991 car.

Where exactly is this spare "spade" located?
Is it a switched or permanent live?

Thanks

I always found the best ones to use were the feed to the Radio, you have a Live and a Switched going to it. Just get your amp meter out to test which one. I dont know how much current you can pull from that one wire but ive never had any problems running things such as phone chargers etc from it, can see the snooper using much power, plus with the stereo out the cables are accessable also.

on the rear of the fusebox, you have to unclip it anbd drop it down.  as said the big chunky red ones are permanent live, if you follow where they connect to the fusebox you'll see spare spade terminals next to them you can use.  Obviously you'll want to test them first, and run an inline fuse. ;)
