mk2 gti info plz

hey all

I got me agolf mk2 gti 8v 1988 3door and the last owner says its the campaign edition.

could  someone give me some info about the campaign edition,

Any info would be most helpful Thxs.

If its a Mk2 then its not a campaign. The campaign edition was the last of the Mk1's in 1983.

Got another question.

did they make any diff mk2gti's ,its just the interior and wheels are diff to any other gti's (no mods or changes have been made to the car) and has been taken to car shows many times in the past years.

I'm sure they did, but I don't know........'jv' might be able to shed more light on it for you........he's much more knowledgeable when it comes to different models and specs etc. Also, if its been taken to shows, he may well have seen it before.

I have seen advertised mk2s that are 'campaign edition' they all seem to be dark green (oak green??), have different alloys - 6 spoke(??), a red insert in the door rubbers and are on E/F plates, may have 16v interior, but not sure.
I don't know if they are offical vw specials or a dealers special edition.

Mk2 Campaigns are alive and well.

They are only late E plated, and not F as some people have said to me.

They were available in three colours, all metalic. Oak Green, Graphite, and Blue. Rear lights are blackened (made by Hella i think). Wheels are 14" 6 spoke alloys. (I think they are called Castaleys or something similiar).

Interior is different; the seats have 3 stripes, blue, green and red.

Much of the Campaign features found their way onto very late Mk2s.

They are factory specials. The only problem is that there aren't many left.

tinman what you say has described  my car
only thing that was diff is the alloys,They have 7 small spokes also in good nik.also has the red rubber insert around the car.

just needs alittle TLC

    Yep as tinman mentioned above the car you have is a special edition which was launched to celebrate the 10 million mark in golf sales, oak green, helios blue and mettalic black were the colours and the cars had rainbow trim, half tint rear lights and the wheels are le castellet as on the late model rivage convertible. To check, the build year number in the chassis code is a J for the model year '88 which is our E reg.
    Also its listed on the ETKA I have as a factory special edition and the wheels if you want to check whether original should have the part number 191 601 025F, the centre cap should have the part number 191 601 169.

Do you have any info on the Campaign?

I read a history of it once that gave production numbers and breakdown of 8v and 16v.

There is nothing on the web that I can find.
