More Rallye Questions... ;)
« on: 15 April 2006, 17:44 »
Hi Guys

Ok seen another Rallye today.. I now have cash so thinking of buying it. Spec below..

Gas flowed and ported head
Piper cam and vernier pulley
Flowed throttle body
Jabbasport charger, chip,Piper pulley and check valve 17" "borbet A" deep dish alloys Weitec coilovers Full supersprint exhaust Cross drilled disc and goodridge hoses Vibratec engine mounts Bonrath top suspension mounts Polybushes throughout Additional guages for oil pressure, oil temp and boost pressure

Thing is.. I hate the Borbet alloys so they would have to go stright away. The engine runs really nicely, however the charger was last done in 1999 by Jabba, its done hardly any miles but i would want to get it done just on the safe side. The car is currently running the standard air box, was thinking of maybe upgrading this again to the jabba one, All the above bits were done in 99 at Jabba, so not sure if Chip technolodgy as improved since then. I would defo consider the small pulley on the charger.. Any info on this would be appreicated. The cars only done 75k and it hardly has any rust, its got a few bits i dont like, like its got extra dials that look rubbish and also has been fitted with white dial. Im assuming all this should be easy enough to sort.

Few more questions..

Where the side indicators would be are still have the G60 logos instead of indicators.. Is this legal?

How much are rear disks and pads likely to cost me, The rear disks are very rusty.

Any ideas how much a front bumper painted and wing to sort out a small patch of rust would be?

Cheers

Knobby.

Ps.. Anyone who owns a Rallye or has loads of experience of them.. can they add me to there messenger pls.. Dave@getripped.co.uk  Cheers.

Hmm, getting closer to the purchase then :)

It's only mileage that would wear the charger, so if it was done years ago but the car has only done a few miles I wouldn't say it's vital. Peace of mind I suppose but it's still 400 quid.

If it has had all those things done I very much doubt it is running the standard size pulley!

No, the lack of side repeaters is an mot fail. Can often be 'overlooked'.

Discs and pads aren't going to cost anything much - they aren't an odd size or anything.

Paint work is always surprisingly expensive so you need a real quote but I would guess at 200 ish quid

sounds like a nicely specced example.. wonder if its anyone we know.

if the charger has been jabba'd its most likely running a 68mm pulley anyway ? i have no problems with my jabba chip.. they're pretty good with the G's.. suits my cam and head perfectly.

no side repeaters = MOT failure.. i managed to blag mine through though

discs/pads.. look on awesomegti.com for a rough guide

as for the spraying/rust treatment.. shop around the local places, you'll no doubt get a lot of variation in the quotes but just go with the place you feel most confident with.

Hi guys..

Thanks for the advice..

topher - Dont think its anyone u know.. the guy was never on any of the forums and didnt take it to shows. Was owned buy a G Williams if i remember rightly from Chippenham.. Ring n e bells?

Blue... Borbets A's there yours for a price.. AND YOU KNOW THIS.. MAN!

JV.. Got the Tshirt this morning.. Well chuffed.. It fitted.. Its defo GREEN! Match me rallye though LOL

The Rallye has been in this country since 89.. Early one i thought.. Its got all the MOT's so it must have passed no problems. Everything ads up with servicing and mots. First one i have been for a ride in.. Was kinda bumpy.. but guess this is the coilovers.. and there were a few rattles but i guess this can be sorted.

You know anything about 2nd gear being hard to get in when cold???

Cheers

Just done an HPI check.. It was first registered in this country in Aug 97.

Its had 7 Former keeps i guess since Aug 97.

The last owner has had it since March 2005.

I am a little worried as to why it had seven keepers in the past 7/8 years.

What to do????  :undecided:

If you want to get any work done on the charger, i'd recommend going to G-Werks in Littlehampton rather than Jabba.
