2nd gear feeling flat

Just done a service on my bro's gf's mk3, and she asked me to have a drive as her 2nd gear has been feeling a bit flat. Took it for a drive and it definately seems to be lacking a bit of grunt there, would expect a bit more from a 1.8 even if it is only a gl? Then again I'm used to my mk2 gti, so i probably wouldnt be the best person to test it.

Are there any common problems which would cause this?

is it just 2nd that's flat or other gears aswell?

Apparently the higher gears are ok, but first is not so good (tho i couldnt notice anything, but im not used to the car) and second was the worst.

Can't help that much I'm afraid, my 1.8 driver was gutless in all the gears  :embarassed:

See I just put it down to being a driver, but she swears it used to be better than it is now!!!
