MK II Steering wheels

I could really do with a replacement as mine is falling to pieces. A standard one will do the job but, given that the newest ones are going to be 15 years old, I'm not sure I'll find one much better.

So will the wheel off a MKIII fit?

I think it depends on the age of your mk2.  The size of the splines was changed when the 90 spec cars were produced.  Which one is yours?

The car's on a J-plate which makes it a '91 but production date I have no idea. Is there an easy way to tell?

Take off the steering wheel to reveal the column. There should be an adapter on it..about 4 cm long with a spline on it.

Mine a 91 1.8 Driver and mine had one.

Yours should be a large spline - about 22mm across, older Mk2s are about 17mm across. So you could get a Corrado and - I think Mk3 - wheel or a late GTi one. Barkstar

Do pre and post 90-spec wheels look different?

Did 90-spec cars get introduced in 1990 or would that be stupid.

I'm looking on ebay and I just know I'll end up with one that doesn't fit.

Sorry if these are daft questions I'm used to Fords where everything fits everything and Minis where nothing fits, even when it's supposed to.

He he Keith I know the mini stuff is a pain. Your car should be cool with the later wheels. Might be worth trying a breakers yard so you can take it off and measure before buying it and popping it on your motor.

Well if you do end up getting a one which is the smaller spline you can take the adapter off, it just pulls off with some *gentle* pusuasion!!!
