Stealers
« on: 14 April 2006, 07:35 »
Does anyone know any good dealers in Leeds or any good specialists round here I use Richard Alexander and to be fair they have been pretty good but expensive. Let me know cause it cost me £290 for my 80000 mile service which seems a bit on the high side but they quoted me £305 plus cost of hire car so wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.During the service they checked the cam belt and reckon it doesn't need changing till 120000 miles is that right. Can't wait to get my car back in June seems a long way off just got to be patient the other driver has admitted liability so thats a good thing.Still not a happy bunny till I get it back

120k cambelt change seems a bit ambitious, but I'm no mechanic. I've heard that VW recommended the change around the 80k mark but have recently reduced this to 60k miles, maybe yours has already been replaced once??

You got a turbo?

If so, my dealer recommended 60k or 5 years.  If you've got no evidence that it's been done, then you should really sort it.  While it's in bits, I'd get them to change the water pump & roller/tensioners at the same time, too.

is the water pump simple job/easy to get hold of the parts?? I'm getting  my cambelt done next week and might get that sorted as well if ain't going to make the job a whole lot longer? my uncle owns his own garage so might ask him to order in new pump and kill two birds with one stone. u know how much new pump costs off top your head mate??

The 1st cambelt change for my Turbo was confirmed as 120k by my VW dealer. But I did'nt want to chance it so got it done at 75k.

Just had the 80k service (plugs and filters etc) and they replaced rear brake pads for the MOT.   Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£345.00....Ouch!

They did lend me a '55' reg VW polo 1.2 which sounded like a V6 when you put your foot down (just did'nt go like one)
