Poor Running
« on: 13 April 2006, 19:16 »
Car has just had the throttle body cleaned and a full service incl distributor and plugs.  Car ran fine for around 100 miles now it has started to splutter on slow running around 1500 rpm in gear it just feels lumpy.

I have changed the ecu relay also any ideas what could be causing this?  Its very annoying.

Thanks

Update,

Tonight the car started to splutter like mad and would not go if you gave it any throttle.  It would run but if you depressed the accelerator it would just splutter.  The engine was warm as i had just done around 100mile and had only switched it off for about 10 mins.

I have been told that the airflow metre sticking can cause this, and that tapping it if it runs badly again can cure it.  Whats your thoughts.

After running poorly for about a mile all of a sudden the car ran fine again very annoying

Thanks

Today i cleaned the airflow metre which looks fine also cleaned the butterfly in the throttle body.

Car is not keen to rev quickly if you quickly press the throttle the car splutters, but if you press it slowly it revs ok.

Any thoughts what else it could be?

my mate had this sort of problem,it turned out to be a large slpit in the big rubber/plastic pipe from the air flow meter to the throttle body.it was letting in more air than it should.
just a thought

i am currently experiencing a similar issue with my '94 8v.
Had a full service, throttle body cleaned and new timing belt and tensioner.
The car (prior to service) seemed as if it was misfiring as cruising speed, around 2-3k revs. This felt like a millisecond where the engine was not giving any power. This wasnt noticable to my missus or other people, but i could defo tell.
Anyway, after the service the car ran really well, was quieter and  felt alot more responsive.
This went on for a good few hundred miles. Now the car has started the slight spluttering again at cruise speed, also slightly noticable on acceleration. The idle speed varies very slightly too, not enough to move the rev counter from just under 1k which it always sits at on idle, but you can tell it fluctuates.
The power itself is always there and it is still just as fast if i boot it, its just the annoying splutter on the motorway and cruising thats is getting me.

My car is running a bosch/digifant set up. Any ideas on this and the post starters issue?
