Driveshafts
« on: 12 April 2006, 22:39 »
Just changing the gearbox in my mk2 16v Turbo and on the passenger side the end of the driveshaft (diff end) has fallen off and the ball bearings fallen out, can these be put back in ok (and how?)

Had a quick look in the dark then decided to call it a night as I couldn't get all my balls in! :)

I have got another driveshaft but would prefer not to have to change it as well if its not too difficult to put this one back together...

Cheers
Tom

If the balls have come out then the circlip has popped off the end of the shaft, so it would be a lot easier to get the driveshaft off.
To get the balls back in you need to like rotate the cage and pop one in at a time. Hard to describe really, even though i did it this afternoon

Will have another go after work tomoro, didn't notice a circlip but can always grab that off the other driveshaft if I manage to get my balls back in  if not then its not alot of hassle to change the complete shaft over, just wanted to avoid this if possible because I know mine are ok and don't have any play in them..

Cheers
