Hi All,
First post here...
Got 2 problems with my GTi.
1) The headlights seem very dimm. Dip and high beam. The car starts fine, there's no problem with the battery. Always plenty of juice. Also when i use the indicators the dash lights dim lower when the bulbs are on, and higher when they're not. I haven't checked any voltages yet when the car's on, but is this a common problem? Could it be something like a voltage regulator? It seems like a common problem on older cars, but what gets old in the GTi's electrics?
The car's a 1993 5 door GTi 8V.
2) Second problem. My car's completely stock standard except for a Powerflow performace exhaust. I don't know if it should, but when I'm driving, say in 3rd gear at 3500rpm, and I take my foot of the throttle the car pops and backfires a fair amount. Rather loud backfiring out the exhaust. Is this normal for a performance exhaust, or should i whip out the haynes manual and check the backfiring checks? It does it the more the engine is under strain with the throttle closed. eg. when in 1st or 2nd and removing foot, and removing foot in higher rpms in 3rd, 4th and 5th. So basically when there's a very high vacuum in the throttle body.
Any help much appreciated!
