HIgh Mileage GTi's
« on: 10 April 2006, 21:54 »
I've seen a 05 GTi with 65K on the clock, does any one know if they last well. Are there any problems with a high mileage mk5 gti.

Thinking about it, 65k miles is nothing in the great scheme of things... ok it is a new car but my Mk1 GTI has 64k on the clock and it is immaculate with no problems.  I had a Mk2 16v with 56k on the clock and it drove like new.  So this Mk5 shouldn't given any problems and if it does, then you can tell us what to what out for!

It only makes sense if its very cheap IMO...

Add another 60K in 3 years and it will be VERY hard to shift - as there will be loads on the used market then.

ON the other hand, if someone does a low mileage, adds 5k p.a. for 5 years, 90k isn't so bad for a 6 year old car and overall will probably have saved £Â£Ã‚£ (assuming its cheap to begin with)

Also - I think this is OUT OF WARRANTY  - (assume it is still 36m / 60k) - VW may be cute and exclude everything! even if it isn't mileage related...

I have just seen the 65K GTI on Autotrader... now I know the car is in demand but that Stealer is really taking the biscuit   £16k for a Mk5 GTI with 65k on the clock when you can get one with less 20k miles for £700 more?! :undecided:  Whoever buys it will be a real sucker.  You can get a brand new UK Spec import for £1.5k more...

Yep that the one i've found, where are these cars for £17000k with 20k on the clock? They seem to want £19K for everything around here. As for the imports when you ring them, It appears they are all vapor that is going to appear in 6 months!!!!!.

Unless ( and I would be grateful) someone can tell me who has stock.

Alternatively go to www.MOTORPROVIDER.uk.com and buy a brand new (albeit basic spec) 3dr for £17495

So it will be a EU (but UK Spec) import. It only has 2 years warranty (extendable) - but that is 2 years more than a 60k plus 1 year old car has!!

Have to agree with Illyun, wouldn't pay more than £12k for this. Although I am sure someone will be completely impatient and buy it for £15k. Its the kind of inflated price that can only be justified for a short period when a car is in high demand. If someone pays 16k, they could easily lose 6-7k in 1 year
