thought id post up a step by step guide for those who dont know how to do a rocker cover gasket on a mk3 gti 2.0 8 valve as ive just done mine.......................
first step, take the 2 brackets off the rocker cover that hold the big grey unit on
2 x 13mm bolts on each bracket

[/img]
then undo the 2 philips screws on the black box on top of the rocker cover (left hand side of the engine)

[/img]
then undo the allen key on the far right hand side of the engine holding 2 pipes on (by the filler cap) then undo the 8 x 10 mm nuts for the rocker cover 4 on the front 4 at the back (bit tricky to get to) then carefully lift the cover off and remove the old gasket and the black plate from under the rocker cover

[/img]
wipe the excess oil from where the cover sits and use blue silicone sealer or similar to make a run round the head and then being careful not to damage the new gasket place the new gasket in its place and silicone over it then replace the black plate

[/img]
next carefuly put the rocker cover back on and put the two 13mm brackets back on along with the black box and rocker cover nuts (dont drop anything into the engine or ul bugger it up)

[/img]
when tightening the rocker cover nuts tighten opposite ends so the cover settles correctly
then once your finished just out of interest check your oil and top up if required and your done!!

just make sure when you kick the engine up you dont rev it untill the silicone feels dry
hope this helps those who need it and can we make this thread sticky please it may be useful to somebody??
