What is this engine?
« on: 08 April 2006, 09:04 »
Hi All,

Just joined the forum after buying a 1989 GTi 8V.

After reading lots of previous posts, I thought I had confirmed that my engine was a Digifant given that I couldn't see any fuel lines running down the driverside wing.

I then went to vwspares to get some bits and found that my engine code (EV) did not match the year date codes on the website.  According to the site, EV engine codes are K-Jet

So now I'm really confused! :undecided: Do I buy according to the year or the code? Anyone else have a 1989 Digifant EV engine?

By the way, the engine code and VIN match that on the V5.

Any help is much appreciated. Cheers!

I was looking for the usual stuff such as dizzy, rotor, ht leads but its engine specific on the website.

OK, I'd love to upload a picture. Sorry to sound daft but how do you do that? When I click on the 'insert image' button I just get this

:embarassed:

if its an 89 its defo a digifant.  I bet someone has swapped an EV block for some reson, prob due to them blowing up the original.  Both blocks are identical though :)

Hooray! Sussed out how to upload a picture. Thanks for your help StevieM.

So here is the engine. Now do I buy Digifant bits or do I buy K-jet bits? Or worse still, please don't tell me its not a GTi engine at all!

Thats a Digifant engine, but as Johhny says, someone must have replaced the original PB code block at some point.

Yup, that is certainly a Digifant unit on there, it is the same as mine

Best thing I would say to do is have a good chat with your local VW Stealership and explain what is under the hood or go and show them.....build up a good rapport with them and you might be surprised how usefull they can be (Well mine is in Plymouth anyway )
