£3000 is a good saving.  I was gonna get an import but the reduced trade in value i would get in 3-4 years time would be far less than with a UK bought car changed my mind.

Ive heard people say its an extra £1500 loss if you get an import, but ive saved more than that so im ok. Its a UK car - just not via UK stealers. I think if you were saving a lot less then there would be little point in getting an import yes.

What ae the other implications of buying an import? I.e. where do you go for a service? And if to a dealer, do they charge more, reduced cusomer service? Does it affect insurance? And how can you be sure it is truly UK spec. and not just right hand drive?

Hiya
Well i know its a UK one because i asked the sellers (motorprovider.co.uk) and asked several questions verifying this - like the presence of automatic climate control, no alarm upgrade required, and various other things. I can get it serviced at any VW garage because they sell services for a fixed price - shouldnt be more for an import. Not that they could tell unless they did a VIN check.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Scottish. The savings on money suit me as im just entering the big bad world of earning a 'living', its just difficult to put a price on the trust you can put into an official dealer. Having said that, this forum at times doesn't instill much confidence in the VW dealerships

I dont trust anyone - least of all people who are trying to flog me 9.2% apr finance and £300 rubbish paint protection schemes - like the delaers for example. They shove it down your throat.

MotorProvider seem decent, easy to talk to, and they know their stuff. And at the end of the day they are well cheap and didnt "shove anything down my throat" - if you know what i mean!

Theyve got GTI's in at £17695 for immediate delivery which is decent too. Mines going to be a while longer cos ive ordered one with leather/dsg etc.

By the way - if you end up gtting a gti from them give me a shout - i'll get £50! Id never recommend someone just for that though - im an honest person.

Went to a vauxhall dealership to look at the vxr and the b*st*rds made my wife cry because they treated us like sh*t! I promptly went away and paid a lot more for a better car somewhere else - and no torque steer!

Hope you didn't leave it at that!! Service like that should be stopped! I get the feeling that, because im young i'll go in and they won't take me seriously because they will assume I cant afford a GTI etc. etc. even although I'll be earning enough after graduating, really landed on my feet work wise! Dealerships really do have a bad reputation and Vauxhall seem intent to keep that up!

I would personally stay away from a stealer - the import places - well motorprovider - seem much better service. At the end of the day youve still got your two years manufacturers warranty. And paying an extra 3k for dealer service with all its pressure and issues is a lot.

Vauxhall were rubbish - but they always have been. They seem to be a training ground for the inexperienced salesman OR where the crap ones end up!

Go wherever you feel comfortable at the end of the day - its a big decision to spend 20k on a car after all. Personal choice and all that!
