No Discount on GTI's Still?!
« on: 05 April 2006, 07:32 »
Hi all,
I'm picking up my new GTI at the beginning of may (nice!). I was reading on here about hte number of you that have gotten your alloy upgrade or something for free... i didnt get any discount whatsoever on my options and the guy isnt even giving me glasses guide price for my celica! Well hes not giving me the top price even though its got new tyres and is in good nick hes said £10,000 but glasses this month is £10550 - and next month it will be £10400 cos its nearly three years old so its resiuals are fairly flat.

When i go this weekend to finalize money what should i be pushing for? I'd be particularly interested in what vwmaindealer has to say. I was thinking about at least trying for my top whack glasses guide price and then met paint thrown in - ideas/oppinions?

Cheers Guys!

Hiya!
Not evena discount on extras? I want to know if i should be at least pushing for the top glasses guide price for my car. Maybe met paitn for free too - they kind of have me over a barrell though cos ive got a 500 quid deposit in there now.... but id be willing to walk away if i thought i could get a much better deal somewhere else.

Ive currently got a celica t-sport - which sounds much more sporty and has a better driving position than the golf (in my oppinion) but i just thought the golf had more torque, and ultimateley quality than the celica.

So what deal should i be pushing for guys?

Hi Scottish69.

I had the same problem you currently face.

I purchased my GTI last September for a March delivery (06 plate). Although I was a loyal customer (previously purchased two other vehicles), I got no discount, despite spending a few quid short of £26K.

The only thing I did get was book price for my 4-Motion. I only got this because the dealer agreed this prior to me paying the £1K deposit, of which they had for nearly 6mths!

Although I would be surprised if you got anything off the GTI & options, I would have expected your dealer to offer you Glasses guide valuation for your Celica.

Until the GTI loses it's appeal, dealers are unlikely to offer any discounts. Why should they! The only alternative is to look on the internet, but you may find the vehicle is an import. Personally, this did not appeal to me as I would prefer dealling with an approved dealer.

I have noticed the price has slightly increased over the last few months. When did you place your order?

Hi there,
I am paying the higher price as i ordered after the price increase. To be honest he isnt far off the book price but i'll push for eat least that. He said 10200 for mine if the golf came in late june - but now he tells me its early may should it should be worth more i think... book price is 10550 for this month so the figure i want is around there somewhere....

I was thinking about asking for half price DSG but from what people are saying theres no chance! So it appears that discounts are very much the exception then?

Cheers,

no discounts... full stop.
I ordered a GTI in January - arriving next week or the week after  but don't even dream about a discount.  I have heard some people on this forum saying they have had discounts but they must have put  a gun to the stealers head!
Its not all bad news though.. the GTI is in demand and in short supply - so its good for residuals

If you're picking the car up early May you've obviously already ordered it yes?. If you've already ordered it, you're a bit late to start wanting extras from the dealer. We (my dealership) don't discount GTIs full stop and to be honest if someone came in a couple of weeks before they were due to collect the car and started asking for money off, i'd politely decline.

If your car books at £10400 and you've got £10000, you've done okay. The book doesn;t buy cars it only acts as a guide for the dealer. Any car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Assuming you haven't already ordered the car, i'd get them to chuck in paint protection for either half price or free. Even this would be pushing it at my dealership TBH.

As for half price DSG....

Cancelled my stealer order and ended up buying an import - saving £3000 overall - and got my DSG!
