URGENT HELP PLEASE!!
« on: 04 April 2006, 19:02 »
HI GUYS, JUST GOT A K&N 57I FOR MY MK3 GTI 8V
REMOVED THE ORIGINAL AIR BOX AND AFM, DISCONNECTED INTAKE HOSE AND TWO SMALL PIPES FROM AIRBOX (VACCUM PIPES). REMOVED AFM FROM AIRBOX AND CONNECTED WITH FITTINGS TO NEW FILTER
INSTALLED BRACKET AND ATTACHED FILTER AND AFM TO IT. THEN SET UP COLD AIR PIPE.
ALL THISIS GOOD, THE ONLY THING IS, THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY TO CONNECT THE 2 VACCUM PIPES TOGETHER AND SECURE WITH ORIGINAL CONNECTORS.

I ONLY HAVE ONE SMALL PIPE LEFT!!! THE OTHER WAS ATTACHED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE AIR BOX TO THE TOP OF IT. THE ONE REMAINING SPLITS IN TWO  ADN GOES TO THE INJECTORS OR SOMETHING AT THE TOP OF THE BLOCK.

WHERE DOES THIS VACCUM PIPE ATTACH TO?  AS THERE IS NO FITTING FOR IT ON THE AFM OR FILTER

PLEASE HELP AS I DONT WANNA START THE CAR WITH IT LOOSE AND IM STRANDED AT MY MUMS HOUSE.

HEY DON'T SHOUT!!
(and only one topic is needed, we'll help ya all the same!!)

Right, what the instructions are telling you are to join the little hoses together, so the flow can go out of one into the other. If you can't find anything that'll do it, get either a bigger hose to go over the outside, making a 'sleeve' and hoseclip it up, or a smaller hose to go inside... and hoseclip it up...

If you havent got 2 pipes, just block one off and go see another bod who's got a similar one fitted...

If you start the car, fire and brimstone will no reign on you, all you'll get is poor running, a bit of a handful on the clutch and it might stall a bit.

There.

cheers mate drove home and all is well
what is it tho? the warm air thing?
I have blocked it off and tucked it away.

on first start up after doing the job i noticed a little smoke for a while
not bad smoke, just a little mist, this seems to have cleared (it usually dont smoke at all)
is that normal?

And finally, is this kit supposed to make the car louder/growlier
because i dont really notice any difference.
performance wise it seems a bit keener/free revving which is good.

what other experiences have people had?

any by the way, thanks very much for all the help!

I believe it's there to work the cold air flap valve jobby. Basically, when the car's cold, it opens to draw warmer air from the engine bay, and when it's hot, the flap closes. I dunno how it works, but it's all vacuum based, so stoppering the fecker does the trick....

imho induction kits are all tish and tosh... some people will tell you they're great, some will say they're pants. I've got OEM box, not even drilled or nowt at the mo, cos I like the quiet life!

But for a bit of growl you cannot beat a swiss cheesed airbox. They always sound really meaty. Far FAR better than any induction kit I've heard.... But it's all my own humble feelings bud, each to his own and all - you may find it sounds better after you get used to it. At the mo you're listening specifically for it. When you 'forget' you've put it on (tomorrow morning!) and you start it up you'll grin like a tit. Guaranteed!!
