Remapping / Chipping ?
« on: 04 April 2006, 13:39 »
Hi Guys

I'm a newbie to this site, and to owning a Golf. I brought a Mk4 Black GT TDI 115 on Saturday.

I brought it because the running costs for my Renaultsport Clio 172 were too high, as I have just been approved for a Mortgage.

Just a few quick questions: -

Are 'chipping' and 'remapping' the same thing?
How much would it cost to get it done to my Golf?
What kind of BHP gains can you expect?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

good choice mate

chipping and remapping are the same thing pretty much; all depends on the year of the car.  with the 115 it'll be a remap.

115 with a remap will produce around 140ish i think.

best bet is to look here for an idea

I had my Bora TDI remapped by JBS Autodesgns who are Custom Code dealers, with amazing results.

Try here: www.custom-code.co.uk

With chipping you'd be adding a box of tricks added under the bonnet.
Whereas remapping, is done via software to change the coding of the current ECU in the car.

I had my 150 remapped with a revo, which is supposed to give me 190, i've not had it tested but you can really feel the difference.  The MPG has increased a little too....bonus!
