cough cough
« on: 26 November 2003, 23:52 »
has anyone got any ideas?..........went out to my car monday morn, not raining, not cold but quite a moderate day,....turned the key and my golf gti 16 valver started for about .5 of a second and then just kept turning over. she's now a non starter.....bit-ch. checked the usual plugs leads, distributor cap, rotar arm, petrol and all present and correct. i have been having some idling problems i.e stalling when gearing down to a roundabout and some times starting after about eight hours after i have used her (when i come out of work for example)so is this the dredded idle valve or something more sinister, any insight would be appreciated  :-\

can u hear the fuel pump 'wirr' when you turn the key? the relay that works it is the top row 2nd from the left. if you can is fuel getting through.

remove the front fuel pipe on the fuel distributor. it's on the top of the air box with braided hoses going to it. get someone to turn the key and if fuel pi5ses out it's not blocked.

get a spare spark plug and attached it to one of the HT leads. Hold it on the block and turn the engine over. remember to hold the rubber else you'll know about it! you should see it sparking if there is a spark.

Check all the vacume hoses are correctly connected and not leaking.

Someone else will probably have more to say as I'm a humble 8v man. :)

Just had a very similar problem last week or the week before. Turned out to be the warm up valve. Car only started after I held it to the floor and cranked the piss out of it for 15 seconds or so. Then it ran fine but was over fueling a bit. Changed that out and no problems since. :) worth a shot anyway.

I thought it was called the warm up regulator but I may be wrong. It is located on the right side of the engine below and forward of the dizzie with a fuel line running into it  from the metering head and one going to the 5th injector. :)
