New Gti ahoy...
« on: 03 April 2006, 19:55 »
Er.......hullo.

Currently - Ovni Leon Cupra, 110k and a bit tired, but been a great car and very little trouble.

Soon - (early May) Red 5-dr Gti DSG, 18s, 6CD.

I haven`t even driven a DSG-equipped VW product (none were available ) but have relied on the strength of the reviews when placing my order.

Thing is, I just can`t seem to get excited.

Please all post here and tell me my doubts are unfounded

We just collected our Red 5-dr Gti with 18s, 6CD, leather on Sat - my partner's car - and she previously had an ovni Leon Cupra.

The Cupra was a v good car, but initial impressions of the Golf are that it really is a cut above in all areas, so far v pleased, and you should be with yours too.

As for DSG, I really hope you love it - plenty of people are raving about it, and we were ready to order it on the strength of all the glowing press, but after trying it, decided we both preferred the good old manual gearbox as it is more involving.  If you are keen to have the option of an auto box at times, then DSG should be good for you.

You are going to get your hands on one of the best cars ever made.  Even with a limitless source of cash you would have to include one of these in your collection.  Everything about the car is right, build quality is fantastic, engine pulls like a train.  Body/chassis feels incredibly solid.  Steering is always perfectly weighted. Dual climate.  Sound system is superb.

Rain sensing wipers, auto lights, subtle red lights over the gearstick (look for the EYES!)

At the moment I can't think of anything extra I would want. ( Getting an iPod connection this week and that should make it 100% complete.)

You wont be dissapointed.

Seconded.

Like yourself I went from a Leon Cupra, which was a great car, to my 5dr GTI which is a fantastic car. I've had mine since last June and it still feels like a new car every time I drive it. Also, there are still very few of them around in my part of the world, so it still attracts admirers. I also went for DSG based on reports and havent regreted it once, absoulutely fantastic piece of engineering. Nor a single rattle or problem since I got it.

The wait is well worth it and you WILL be looking for excuses to go for long drives for no apparent reason!!

I have a Mk2 Golf GTI on an F plate... it has 39k on the clock and has 1 previous owner who is the owner of the VAG Independent Specialist Garage in Eastbourne.  I am not exaggerating when I say that it feels just as tight and new to look at and to drive as the Mk5 Golf GTI demonstrator - courtesy of Wolsey VW Ipswich -  with 2k on the clock did.  These cars are built to really high standards and if looked after, will last for a long long time...
