Speakers
« on: 03 April 2006, 14:31 »
Hi

i'd like to upgrade my speakers in the near future but want to keep it all looking standard so would like to get the new speakers to fit perfectly in the old places.
Has anyone recently done this and been happy with the results?
I'm not bothered about big bass, just interested in some good sounds.

Thanks in advance for any comments

Do you have front door pocket speakers?  If so then a reasonable set up should be possible. 13cm components in there with 3.5" tweeters in the dash and then some 6x4s for the back outer shelf bits.

I don't have door pocket speakers and even with infinity fronts and JBL rears it sounds crap. Nice and clear but crap lol!

Yeah i have the door pocket speakers...

So the back ones in the parcel shelf are 6x4, the door pocket one are 13cm and the tweaters on the dash are 3.5"?
... and should most speakers of these sizes fit?

backs definately 6x4", fronts definately 3.5", not sure exactly about door ones as i don't have any i am afraid.

Some speakers don't fit as well as others - don't get infinity 6x4's as they don't line up with the mounting things properly. I sold mine and switched to JBL rear which went straight on.

The infity fronts fit with a little squeezing, think i filed a little off round the holes to get it in.. the pioneers i had previously fitted straight in no probs.

The door speakers are 5 1/4 inch or 13cm.
I've recently put a pair in my golf, bought grills and bit from local VW and popped them in. They are only cheapy Pioneer ones as i'm a bit skint. Bought two crossovers from maplins, used the original dash speakers as tweaters and the door ones as mid range - sounds fine. Got 6x9's in the shelf, and while some people prefer subs and all the gubbing that go with it, i'm happy with the sound I get from what i've got.
Cheap and cheerful - and I can hear in the front now
<br />Almost finished.....

I fitted a pair of decent dash speakers and 6x9s in a stealth shelf.  The stealth shelf is important though, cutting holes in your std shelf isn't going to gicve you good sound, plus it lets all the local chavs see your sound setup!
Sounds awesome for what I paid for it, and I get to keep my door pocket cubby holes for all the random crap
