Car karma- this may be oily and expensive!
« on: 02 April 2006, 22:06 »
Just thrashed my 2.0 16v mk2 on a 600mile plus roadtrip from Devon to Cumbria (mate's stag weekend)
Awesome drive up- car averaged 36mpg on M6 hauling three fat blokes & luggage!

However, getting ready to go home today, my mate opened boot with key (forgot its c/l) and somehow pulled lock barrel clean out of boot, as I reversed in pub car park the speedo drive broke and then 10 miles up the road one of the front wishbone bushes gave up. Drove the 350miles home perfectly apart from no speedo or MFA, having to access boot from inside car and the front end vibrating like crazy...

I reckon its karma- was maybe too much to ask of the old girl!
I have agreed with car that it will now be taken off road to fix above and a couple of other bits:

1.New driveshafts
2.New crankshaft oil seal (its been leaking oil onto clutch)
3.New rear springs (tyres gettiing battered by wheelarches)
4.Some motorbike carbs

The last one means i will bung it in the projects section and remember to take some pics this time
If only my Volkswagen was as reliable as everyone else's...
