to get to the area where the ariel is held in you have to jack the car up and take to wheel(easier) and the plastic inner arch thingy, then if you look up inside the wing you will see it, but i gave up trying to get it out, if you manage please tell me how

I was planning on removing mine and sticking a bee sting aerial on the roof.  Would it not be easier to remove the wing and the wheel arch liner to get at/remove/replace the wing mounted aerial?  This would give full access to the underside of the aerial and would allow you to route the wiring correctly.  The wiring should just go from the wing and down through the bulkhead and in to the cab, don't think removing the whole dash would be necessary although removing the glove box would allow you to see where the aerial comes through the bulkhead and towards the radio mounting area.

you dont have to remove the wing just the arch liner the aerial is only held on with one bolt if memory serves me correct. may even be none! just rip it out. then route the cable from the roof aerial down the rear qaurter trims and under the carpet (down the middle) and then up behind the centre console to the radio job done!

Take out the arch liner (how else are you going to get to the bottom bolt?)
Remove the scuttle tray, radio and disconnect the aerial plug
Chop the old aerial cable where it runs next to the fresh air intake in the scuttle tray and remove the old aerial  Fit the new aerial, tape the new aerial plug to the old aerial wire you just chopped
Pull the old aerial plug out thru the radio slot, eventually you'll feed the new wire thru without having to remove the dash :)

P.S. the glovebox will NOT come out unless you pull the dash forward, there just isnt enough room!  Don't panic though its not as scary as you might think, only a few bolts & screws :)
