New GTi-what fuel are you choosing?
« on: 31 March 2006, 23:13 »
Collecting 3dr black pearl, manual, centre armrest, rcd 500 (ipod adapter), 17". On Saturday 1/4/06.
Didn't go for the after market paint/protection as I can't see a reason. (My old mk4 is 4yr old and looks like brand new, and has never been treated with anything other than TLC!)

I plan to run-in using a premium fuel (Optimax, Supreme etc)  I will ask my dealer in the morning for recommendations.

The recent EVO mag test featuring the Gti and M5 was very revealing. Will post details if anybody missed it.   Essential reading for MarkV owners.

Incidentally, the deal I got on this car was fanatastic (but I would say that, wouldn't I!)

Actually you'v got a point Doc... the GTI only takes RON 98 or above from what I have read which means BP Ultimate at 97 RON is out - Optimax only then.  Tesco do a 99 RON fuel but tests have shown that Optimax is better plus I don't trust supermarket fuel

I would take EVO's advice and run a mix of BP Super and BP regular.  I currently do exactly that with my Porsche and the Audi, it seems to make no difference at all with the Audi but the Porsche has significant performance gains on running with BP Super or Optimax.  It's all about what works best with your motor, here are some findings with previous motors...

S2000 - Ran best on BP Super, tried one tank of Supermarket Regular and is really suffered.
CTR - Optimax worked best, but Shell Regular was not bad so ran a tank of each.
Integra Type R - Only ran on Optimax, regular fuel seemed to suck it dry?
Octavia RS (chipped) - BP super and BP regular.  The super made great gains.
X-type 3.0L sport - No point in running super so didn't bother..
Civic Sport - I won't even go there......
Beemer 320D - Ran best on Shell diesel.  One tank of supermarket fuel was one tank to much.

Hope this helps

Yup... I would never put anything other than Optimax, BP Ultimate or Tesco 99 RON in that order of preference...
