Had to call out the AA
« on: 31 March 2006, 15:26 »

Went the gym at lunch today and when I tried to start the car but nothing  :undecided:

Sounded like it was turning over but not starting.

Tried a few times and gave up and call the AA

Guy turns up 45 mins later, plugs in a volt meter to the battery to check the power and asked me to start it.
Started up no bother. turned it off then on again with no problems.

That fine but now i'm worried.

What happens when I leave work at 5pm is it gonna start ? gonna be worried until its fixed. Anyone else had this problem ?

AA guy said it was probably flooded and could do with a service. but that might not fix it...

Other than that one time has it ever had any little problems like whining starter, holdong back etc? Might be ignition related like rotor distributor, ignition coil, leads or plugs which you might do in a service. Did he give you a alternator or battery read out?

He said the battery was fine but he buggered off as soon as it started up.

I did notice that when you started it it makes a noise like it is trying to over start !!

I though it wasnt gonna start at the petrol station yesterday but when I tried it again it started fine

In for a service in a couple of weeks so it should be sorted then (hopefully)

Could be a sticking starter you could always take it out and give it a clean to make sure no gunk in it or try ignition bits.

could bre temp sensor mate, mine had similar problem 6months ago. after driving around for bit i'd stop say to get petrol then the thing wouldn't start again first time, and when it did start the revs were all over the place. turned out the tmp sensor was knackered (£15 approx), and the car thought it was a lot colder than it actually was...so it flooded more petrol in than needed. so it had probs starting, then would rev higher to burn off the excess fuel in the system. might be worth getting someone to check that mate, cheap to fix!! mine worked perfectly ever since

Don't think its that, the revs are fine and the temp is fine. Thinking its more to do with the plugs or leads.

Getting services soon so hopefuly the VW Gimps can sort it
