Paint & Upholstery Protection
« on: 31 March 2006, 15:25 »
My GTi comes in May and one of the options the dealer was trying to sell me was paint and upholstery protection by a company called Scotts.  This gives a 10 year protection to new cars.  Has anybody else went for this option or similar (autoglym) and is it worth the extra £300 ish.

Thanks

I went for this and I think it is definetly worth it - this is the AutoGlym Lifeshine that is described on the Autoglym site.  My dealer is charging £245  and I have heard from VW MainDealer that you can negotiate on this as they have a bit off a profit margin / commission on the package - I didn't bother as I felt it a bit disgraceful to take a £50-75 commission off the poor guy when I was spending £22000.

I think the general rule of thumb with any of these paint protection systems, is if you don't like polishing your car, then they are worth it. As long as they are applied correctly by the dealer, they do work and keep the car looking good. Still worth negotiating with the dealer over price. You'll get at least 50 quid off, possibly 100 if you're feeling really nasty( it is do-able, I promise). The salesman is on commission (obviously) but is also targeted and paid on add-ons like supagard, lifeshine, scotts etc and he'll do a deal with you.  The trick with any negotiation though is not to come accross a smart @rse or aggressive with the salesman. That will not get you what you want.

You can now buy a similar product, uses "nano-tchnology" i know we do it so halfords and motosave probably willi in some form, ours is car plan and pretty inexpensive, worth a try tbh must admit i used the wheels cleaner and it does just take water from a little watering can to clean the crap off  :undecided:

... obviously the car has to be clean before you apply said products otherwise you'll seal dirt in! lol

Hi Cartmell

My valeter said he can come to Cumbria and do the kit for £150 all in.

You get the FULL AUTOGLYM LIFESHINE KIT on your motor, certificate, window sticker etc for that price!

If anyone else wants prices etc then just ask!

He charges £100 in the Merseyside area for a full AUTOGLYM LIFESHINE kit fully applied!

If your outside of the Merseyside area then the price goes up to cover his fuel costs - but even if your in London he only charges £200!

Cheers and good luck with your new motors every one!
