Key Fob Reset
« on: 30 March 2006, 00:03 »
Hi,

About a week ago one of my remote key fobs stopped working (doors don't lock or unlock), replaced the batteries and it still does not work. I have a spare remote key which works perfectly.

Seen a few posts on the net to reprogram the non-working remote key by using the working key as below:
1. Place the defective key in the ignition, and turn on, but do not start.
2. Take another, operational, key and depress unlock. that should reset the defective fob.

Just worried that this might bugger up my operational key thus forcing me to visit the stealership, so just asking if anyone has tried anything similar before with any success?

Thanks in advance.

I've managed to reset the unworking fob  Basically the key lost synchornisation with the car when the battery died.

Just had to lock the car, hold down the open or lock door button on the unworking fob for 1 second and then use the key on unworking fob to open the lock in driver's side door. I believe this only works if a key was previously working, I would doubt it would work from a key that has'nt been paired with the car previous e.g. ones purchased from ebay, I reckon you'll probably need to visit a stealer or someone with VAGCOM.
