MK3 problemo

Hello all,

As my MK1 is put to bed for the winter im now using my mk3 as my daily driver.

Its started to develop a problem. Just coming up for its 60k service and everytime I come to a stop the revs drop to almost stalling point and then pick up again and occasionally the car just stalls dead. Ive heard it may be something to do with a crudded up throtle body, is this the case? If so will redex or similar help. Im going to service it at the weekend as well.

Help as it doesnt inspire much confidence in this weather!!!

has it been sat for a long time? mine was doing that shortly after i bought it, once it was warmed up it was ok, after about a week the problem went away.

60k is the cambelt change ?   (according to the vwfsh with my mine was due to 80k, but i did it a few months early @ 75k)

I got the cambelt done at 45k as the tensioner was seizing.

No, its used daily, ive read a few older threads and will try cleaning up the throttle butterflys see if that does anything.

Oh, and I have heated mirrors too!!!!!

Same problem with my '97 P 8v GTI, but it doesnt do it all the time. It does it more when cold, but occassionally even when warm and driven for over an hour. Let me know how you get on with the throttle bodies. Is it an easy job? Someone also mentioned it could be a faulty air mass meter?

Sounds dead easy cleaning up the throttle butterflies. Il try it at the weekend when I service it and let you know. Bloody thing...

Hope its not the air mass meter.. they cost!!!!

Check the air flow meter for oil deposits. Get the car on a fault reader.

I think ill try the obvious things before I go down that route vr6. I am loathed to spend money on my MK3 as I dont like it, lookin to chopit in for a late MK2 valver soon.
