« on: 25 November 2003, 22:07 »
HI i have a 1990 16v gti, does anyone have a fuse box diagram, showing the relays, what there for, and what fuse numbers are relating to there devices.
i need this because my central locking is not working, there sems to be no power to the drivers door, i think?..... it was working fine then nothing!!!!the motor does not even make a sound.. a day before this stopped the interior light stopped working, and the bulb is fine, although i love my car its a pain in the rear some times.   cheers guys for any help

Take your drivers door card off and gently tug up the plastic foil without ripping it, Now look for the wiring connector in the bottom right of the door and find the plain red wire without any tracer.

Check this with a multimeter and you should have roughly 12.70 volts.

This is the feed to the actuator that controls the central locking pump and is constant live. I would check this first as at least then you know its a no power fault if you have no reading.

I'll scan my wiring diagrams if you need them.

If you do have a feed to the plain red wire you need to check the other two that you have.

RED/YELLOW
RED/WHITE

RED/WHITE should be live with the vehicle unlocked

RED/YELLOW should be live when the vehicle is locked, lock button pushed down door open.

It is these two wires that energise the central locking motor into either sucking to lock the car or then reversing polarity and blowing to unlock the car.

How did you get on?

Also a good tip is to wire up one of those flashing alarm LEDS on the locking circuit so it only flashes when the car is locked.

The alarm LED on mine was very dim and now you can see its alarmed from the other side of the car park.
