Refurbing headlights?

Is there any way to clean up the headlights so they are as new, or is it the plastic itself that goes dull?

you can take them off and rinse some petrol around the inside of them, i did this to my old ones, and they were nice and sparkly afterwards. Just be careful though as it is muchos flammable.

If they've just got muck in them then hot soapy water should do the trick - I used a bit of sponge on the end of a stick to encourage the crap to shift poked through the bulb hole. But if they're tarnished then its new ones I'm afraid.
