I've got heated mirrors!!!!!

I didnt realise i had heated mirrors till i was reading a bit on the Mk4 part of this forum where they said that the mirror heating only works when the rear screen heater is turned on. Thought i'd give it a try. And it works on my Mk3!!!

You all may already know this and i'm a little bit slow.... :-[

i've been wondering about this.. is there an easy way to check this out? (i havent noticed it sorting my mirrors out..)

Mk3 8V GTI- 97/R.

Its got electric mirrors (obviously - doh...). On the Mk4 forum they said that the Mk4 left/right switch that selects which mirror is being adjusted must be in the neutral position for it work, but on the Mk3 it can only be in either the left or right position, but the heated mirror still works.

It was a bit slow to start with but one day on it clears it quicksmart. Just turn the rear screen demist on and away it goes.

Seems i wasnt the only one who didnt know this.

ok, well your cars the same year as mine, bar it not being a valver.. so i assume i should have them.

you know theres that sticker in the boot with the full list of all the extras on the car, that might be worth checking out.

i know my mirrors are colour coded (so is the grillie ont he front, but the side trim isnt).. there should be a way to poke around and have a look-see if they've got heating kit in right?

i know my mirrors are a different shape to the CL ones

i almost always leave the rear demister on..

Its good aint it!! you obviously have a nice warm garage to park your car in over the winter? Very handy on a frosty morning to clear the rear screen and the mirrors, or if the mirrors steam up. I far as I know all Mk3 GTIs should have them....or at least '96 onwards. ('97 P, 8v)

the only weapons i have are a jumbo can of de-icer and the onboard electrics

thinkin about it i would like wipers in my mirrors too, lol

 Er guys, what did you think the silver line down the middle of your mirror was for? All gti's and vr's have em.

yeah my GTI 8v '97 P has heated mirrors.

lol... well i think i found that silver line on the drivers mirror.. but i'm not sure about the passenger one... i'm really tempted by wipers on the mirrors now tho, lol
