Big bumper fog lights
« on: 25 March 2006, 18:11 »
Greetings all! I have a problem, the fog lights were never connected when I bought the car, one side had been smashed and the other unplugged. I just replaced the broken one and reconnected the other (both bulbs checked direct from the battery). Been back through the archive & checked connector under the res. However the front fogs still don't work the rears do. Checked fuse, swapped #10 relay with#11 as both type 53. Checked dash switch connected, head lights on etc- Still no luck

Any ideas?

You might need a newer fog light switch matey does it have two clicks or 1 ? if it has one you are only switching the rear fog on, the front is on with the back on the second click.
hth :)

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

Thanks for your reply. The switch is an original two click one, the car always had fogs they were just disconnected,  I presume when the n/s one was damaged. The orange warning light on the switch doesn't light up either. It may be a relay problem but the Haynes manual only gives the fuse/relay layout for the older models (is it just me or are Haynes Manuals Cr*p?). I can see that relay #10 works the rear fog but I'm not sure if it does the fronts as well or if there is a separate relay for the fronts which has been removed.  :undecided:

Hi, fixed the foglights, the dangly connectors behind the bumper had been left disconnected & dangling for soooo long that they had a film of corrosion on them, cleaned up & jiggled and all works......  Except...... I think there should be a warning light on the dash switch,  :undecided: it comes on with the rear fogs but not the fronts, is there a second bulb in the switch for the front fogs which can be replaced? Thanks

that lights only supposed to turn on when the rear fogs are on, my mechanic told me it was to warn you that you could be dazzling people behind you, dont know why you dont need you for the front, possibly cause they dont really do much dazzling?? dunno, your lights working fine tho

The warning light on the lower part of the switch does run off a second bulb. They are often blown and need replacing. There not that simple to do unless your handy with a soldering iron. Simply take the switch apart and solder a new bulb in. Or if your feeling brave convert them to LED's.

Hmm! So I'm not quite sorted?  I'm OK with a soldering iron, its taking the switch apart that worries me, sounds like I could end up with a pile of bits!  :undecided:
