Rallye Wanted.... A few questions....
« on: 23 March 2006, 20:43 »
Hi Guys

I am still in search of a rallye.. However i have a few questions.

I dont mind the initial cost however i am concerned about the running costs. I know owning a car that has a supercharger doesnt really = a cheap running car just i have heard mixed views. some people are saying they will do 30mpg if driven sensibily. However spoke to a guy today who had one and he said his was tuned and it returned only single figure mpg when driven hard, this must be the case for most cars though. ummm.. anyways i am saving for a house so i dont want  a car thats gonna cost a fortune to run, ive just sold a 328 bmw that was expensive to run. Any advice on buying one or owning one will be appreicated.

So i am still looking for one, I now own a Renault Clio 172 i would be interested in doing some sort of deal with the clio.. however it is currently for sale so i would be able to do a cash deal when sold.

Cant wait to get back into the Mk2 Golf scene and own a classic Rallye!!!

As always any advice appreicated....

Cheers

If you're struggling to find a good one over here try www.mobile.de  It's in German but fairly easy to navigate. Then hop a £50 cheap flight and drive it back, you'll need export plates at £75 but its easy to register this end and one way ferry is £40 to Dover. A mate imports campers all the time. Always get one with a TUV (MOT).

A Rallye won't be cheap to run. Long term average mpg on mine is 23

You won't drive it sensibly.... what is the point?!

shaft69 - Sorry mate cant see where u mean.. its only one page....

I am seriously considering going across to germany and getting one.. Can certainly get a bargain. What i really want to do is buy a cheap one, have it resprayed fit some nice wheels to it and get it running right and i think i'll be laughin!!!

Ferry to Germany with a car and a car trailer.. Dont like the idea of driving it back.. could go nasty.. LOL

Anyone had any experience of importing a car?

Cheers

I love those 172 my brother got the cup. He's fitted trophy seats and suspension, There well fast and handle brilliantly.

Shaft... its a cracking little car.. As you said handles very well.. Its quick, very nimble.. and if you dont drive too heavy footed they are ecconmical also. I've only owned the car a few weeks, I had a BMW 328 coupe that i loved but was far to juicy and expensive to run. The clio is cheap run but unfortunately i am 6 foot and 16 stone and it does feel a little to small for me. I could cope but i just fancy that Rallye. I have my heart set on one LOL...

Clio 172 swop for a Rallye would be ideal.. Or sell it and import one.. Would either want one that had been resprayed or enough cash in the deal to afford a respray.

Ummm
