G60 brakes and bbs ra's
« on: 22 March 2006, 19:36 »
Ok heres the thing......

G60 and 16v calipers are actually one and the same. i looked at them and compared

I already have 16v calipers etc on my car.

the only difference is the caliper carrier and the disk and pad size. the calipers are mounted further away from the hub allowing for bigger disks.

I managed to get a pair of G60 caliper carriers for a tenner

these however wont fit under my bbs ra's which i really want to keep so i was thinking could i space the wheels out a bit with spacers to give me the clearance? because the caliper will foul on the spokes if i dont.

anyone know about this? or got any ideas?

Read an article in golf driver mag (autometrix publications) and Tim styles racing had converted a left hand french mk2 g60 to 1.8t and it still had bbs ra's , let us know when you find out!!

can't see that putting spacers on will be a problem?might take a bit of experimenting to get them looking right and clearing enough?

will only have to fit approx 5mm spacers on each wheel for G60 calipers, And should miss as they only just touch. Offset is sill ok for the arches. G60 calipers are different fist is wider, hence they wont fit under ra's. when did my 280mm up grade on 16v only changed carriers had G60 calipers but binned them was using bbs ra's.

This seems to be a widely debated topic. With regard to the calipers from what I've read the 16v caliper has a "knuckle" that if you grind off will allow use of the 280mm disc and give the appropriate clearence.

In relation to the Ra's some say you can and some say you can't........

Have a look at this topic from another forum:
