Anniversary GTi TDI 2002
« on: 19 March 2006, 13:27 »
had my car for some 3 days after a private purchase - has a very slight drift to the nearside, will go for the obvious wheel balance / tracking, just wondered if there was a history of similar with this model

and those BBS things ! although a classic design and best type for the car, i'm disappointed that they need refurbishing so early in vehicle life (i'm told that the manufacturer is aware of the problem) fortunately, the seller agreed to pay for the refurb

should i be careful about who does what to the wheels, or is it simply the case that i pick any of the advertised 'refurbishers' and ask how much ? - once done, should i be protecting them with a chemical / polish ?

thnks

Have you checked the obvious tyre pressures?

Be careful when refurbing these wheels. My dealership buys a fair few anniversaries. The factory wheels have that gunmetal finsih which your average mobile refurber cannot replicate. I've seen Annis with refurbed grey wheels and it kills the look. We wont buy one if it has had wheels refurbed in normal alloy colour. There may well be specialists out there who can do it but expect to pay much more than the normal 40 quid a corner. The whole point of these cars is the unique bits on them and you'll affect it's value by not getting it done properly. I've never had anniversary wheels refurbed, I've had to buy a couple of new ones over the years though.

Don't use a caustic general use wheel acid on them either. Elbow grease and a brush to avoid knackering these wheels sadly.
What's your best price for cash?

Many thanks for the reply - I will proceed with caution or more likely, start saving the £'s for a new set. Well worth the investment

thanks
