Apart from the engine..what are the difference between the 16v and 8v golf Gti

Basically a red 16v badge and traction control!! From '96 onwards it was very difficult to tell the 8v from the 16v, as both had bee-sting aerials, same alloys, etc.

8v pumps out 115bhp, where you get 150bhp with the 16v. Altogeher a much faster and better engine

i think the suspension is the same.. the VR6 is stiffer.
Gearbox is the same i think
The brakes are uprated on the 16v

Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

Later 16v brakes are the same as early vr6, 280mm, later vr6 are 288mm.
