New 16 GTI mk2
« on: 24 November 2003, 12:54 »
Hello..

Just bought a new car this weekend.

Golf MK2 GTI 16v. 90000 miles full Service History 1 years MOT, good condition.

Just a few questions.

When the car is standing still the gauge between the the clocks starts to move and its reading that the engine is getting hotter when moving again the gauge will go back to the middle does this sound ok??  ??? also the the MFA reads all unusual figures eg. MPG 99.9 and average MPH 275.. any ideas??

just one more thing the temperature for the oil reads 98 then sometimes goes upto 104?? is this ok..

Any help would be great

cheers,

Garry  ;)

not sure about the mfa, try resetting, or pull the fuse
my oil temp shows similar readings

The MPG reading 99.9 could be that the vacum hose has come out from behind the speedo.

Hey Gaz,
How does the 16v compare to your 8v, i.e. low down grunt, top end, etc, etc...... ??

The 16v has more power and it is quick, the 8v is good for round the streets etc.... but get on a long road and the 16v will soon be hitting 100MPH ;D

If you want an 8v i have very nice 1 for sale.. check CARS FOR SALE in fact its the one on the bottom of this message..

cheers

coolant temp never goes above half way on mine, and the fan will kick in once it hits half way

my oil temp will usally sit around the 104 mark but will go upto anything as high as 118 sometimes

u can try cleaning out the oil cooler, just take the two pipes off and flush it with a hose

the MPG & MPH will both be related to the vacumm hose on the back of the clocks

did you buy that oak green 16v that was for sale on here?

Thanks for the reply's this is very helpful.

I didn't buy the Oak green16v the one i bought is totally standard.

When you say "vacumm hose" is this the type of connection, how do you reconnect the the cable "vacumm hose".

Could do with it working is it hard work to resolve the problem?

cheers..
