2ltr 16v 9a engine more info please!

Seems to be a fair few people all starting at once which can only be a good thing, unless we start fighting in scrapyards over old engines

My head has been ported and polished on my kr engine so it's getting whipped off and rehoned revalved and tappets etc. then going onto a self rebuilt lightened balanced and poss rebored 16v 9a or 6a block. check out my post in the mk2 section for the started list

Are all the senders etc in the same places on the 2l blocks?

9a blocks are usualy bullet proof, 16v heads need overhaul after 100k miles or so. If fitting in new block best to get head done while its all out saves taking head back of later, when puffing out blue smoke.

Audi 80 16v (mine was a '91) is a 6a, Passat 2.0 16v and Corrado 2.0 16v are 9a.
Earlier Passats and 'Rados had the 1.8 KR 16v so check the block for a big '2.0'

I looked for Passats for ages- go for an Audi as your far more llikely to find one!

so what are the differences between the 6a and 9a they do seem to be a lot more common

Both same just one in audi put in long ways and other in vw's put in transverse hence sump and oil pump different.

i'm comng into a little bit of money and am contemplating a 9a lump and reconditioning the head at the same time..

being a complete virgin in the field, can anybody give me some hints on where to source a good quality block from??

Can i also add that there are also 2.0 blocks out there with 11J stamped on them that work a treat. I know cos my car has one. Beats me if i know what its off though!

edit: It turns out its acutally a 9a but you cannot see the 9a stamp till you remove the oil cooler and clean the block. It also has a big 11J cast into the block. Might help you all out if your looking through scrappys for this block.

Mine was a 9a and I was told it was from a Corrado. That was some engine, bullet proof and very tunable.

Jesus lads,  soo much info on the 2.0 conversion,  i'm getting excited and er indoors is in bed,  anyway can we save this as a sticky,  excellent info,  only if i had the pennies now
