mk3 1.6cl sunroof - manually shutting it?
« on: 17 March 2006, 19:19 »
Hello everyone, newbie here!

Well anyway, my '94 1.6cl sunroof has a bit of a problem. The long u shaped black bit that I assume is supposed to do the pushing (etc) has snapped. The motor turns on and off but I'm no expert and don't fancy messing about up there, I just want to get it shut because at the moment I have a couple of mm of gap. And it's making the car cold!

It seems impossible to budge though! Any catch or latch or whatever I should be moving so I can seal it shut?  Any advice would be MUCH appreciated, thanks!

underneath the motor shold be an allen key to wind it shut manually, if it's missing, you'll be able to see on the motor that it's got an allen key socket, get 1 to fit, and bobs yer uncle....... :nerd:

Wow thanks for the quick reply!

If you're saying what I think you're saying, I don't think that will work unfortnately.

The reason being, it's not the motor that's broken, because that does turn anyway. I tried removing the motor and there wasn't anything underneath other than the bit for the 'cog' the motor spins round.

The problem seems to be with the mechanism / hinges / whatever you call them, I assume because the black plastic u shaped runner is snapped off (I removed it as it is now useless in 2 bits!).

Still can't do this. Any ideas how easy it would be to disassemble and then reassemble shut? anything to look out for? thanks
