Right i did the carb cleaner, no better.

Changed the coolant o ring and then the inlet manifold and it hasn't solved the problem.

what do i do now?

Replace the idle/overrun valve :)

is this known on GSF as IDLE CONTROL VALVE?

I really hope not as i don't have over 100 pound..

modify:and they dont do one for my car.

I think the gsf one is for the GTI 8v & 16v, the carb one is small & square and is bolted to the back of the 3/4 point unit.

dont think there is anywhere you can buy em, perhaps ecp?  I'd just get a couple from a scrappy and test em, they should pass vacuum when off and not when on.  Or was it the other way round? 
Either way, connect a vac hose and suck on it with & without a 12v supply to the electrical connection, should be obvious if its working or not ;)

The part labled 'idling overrun control valve' is what I'm on about.  It has 2 vacuum hose connections on it, put a hose on one of them and try to suck air through it, with and without a 12v supply (e.g, plug it in and switch the ignition on/off)  If theres no difference between ignition on and off, then its knackered or it isn't getting a 12v feed from the ignition.  It should click when you turn the key :)
