just basics, induction kit, power boost valve, superchip, k1 leads and some nice shiny new spark plugs !!. im getting milltek exhaust fitted next week. just enquiring really to see if the power gain vs drivability is worthwhile

One of the fellas on here or the other GTI website has done a fair bit to his and got the BHP upto the 145 mark IIRC.  Have you had a chat to TSR??  They do cams, heads etc.  I looked into it but its really expensive and cheaper to flog it and buy a 16V, but I inderstand where you're coming from, I reckon it would go pretty well especially if you opened the head up a bit to match.  A few years ago a chap called Bill Blydenstein (sp) used to have a lot of success with heads, he'll be found through google no doubt.

wow Bill Bly' eh. thats a blast from the past
you mean he managed to get his head out from under a Vauxhall bonnet
he did know his stuff though.
i have been thinking about the power problem with the 8v (ive got one) it seems that there is a fair amount of cost to get to even the 150BHP mark, conventional means are just cheaper than forced induction, but it still aint £50 to do. i am really considering a bit of  gas.
£500ish for 50ish BHP at a safe level. i know it isnt permanent power and it runs out etc etc. but how often do you need the max power?
just a thought anyway.

Oh yes!  He did a few other heads but seems to have gone quiet now that there are more and more turbos knocking about, heres his website:

And heres TSR's:

MMMM, laughing gas, now theres a thought  I had a struggle to get past a 1.8 Mondeo when I had mine.  It was on a straight though, round the bends would of been a different matter.
